Andros Townsend’s start to the season at Tottenham 1

Andros Townsend

Premature though his England selection may have been, Andros Townsend has had an extremely encouraging start to 2013/14 at Tottenham, and has certainly made himself a viable first-team option for Andre Villas-Boas.

His decision-making is still a bit of a problem, and his instinctive tendency to always run with the ball is also something which needs to be quelled, but he’s still making a very positive impact.

Here are his stats from the first couple of games:

- Has started twice.

- Has been Man Of The Match in 1 of those games (vs Swansea).

- Has scored 0 goals.

- Has provided 0 assists.

- Has averaged 3.5 shots per game, second at Tottenham only to Paulinho (3.7).

- Has completed 49 of 60 passes (81.7%).

- Has created 3 goal-scoring opportunities so far this season, at an average of 1.5 per game (Team leaders: Nacer Chadli, Aaron Lennon - 3).

- Is averaging 5.5 successful dribbles per game, more than double any other Tottenham player.

- Is being fouled twice per game at the moment, more than any other Tottenham player.

- Has completed 3 of his 10 attempted crosses, and averages 1.5 accurate crosses per game - more than any other Spurs player.
