Chelsea, Blaise Matuidi, and a potential steal 0

But-de-Blaise-Matuidi-PSG-2-0-Brest

The world does not need another transfer rumour involving Chelsea, and that’s really not what this is supposed to be - it’s more of an FYI.

Blaise Matuidi, PSG’s outstanding defensive midfielder, is nearing the end of his contract and will be able to negotiate a free-transfer from January onwards. Even for Chelsea, trying to out-bid PSG will be no easy task, but they can at least offer the French international a bigger stage than Ligue 1.

Matuidi is also a stable-mate of Romelu Lukaku’s at Mino Raiola’s agency, so there is some semblance of a relationship between the two parties - even if Raiola is more prevalent in Italy and France.

Chelsea are a good-fit for this player, because he would address a fundamental weakness in the defensive-midfield part of the side. Matuidi is outstanding without the ball: he reads the game well, he’s strong in the tackle, and basically he excels in every aspect of taking the ball away from the opposition.

On a free transfer? This is a player who Michael Emenalo and Jose Mourinho can’t afford to ignore, and someone whose situation they must surely be aware of.

Don’t just YouTube Matuidi, because his type of game doesn’t really translate to highlight packages, try and watch him in the next round of the Champions League. A pairing of him and Ramires in deep-midfield and Stamford Bridge has the potential to be rock-solid, and could off-set some of the perceived imbalance in this side.
