Brilliantly entertaining.  Maybe it’s not quite right to acclaim that as an example of what makes the Premier League great, because some of the defending was almost comical at times, but Everton and Chelsea produced a fantastically engaging game with momentum swinging one way and then the next.

Here are the statistics from Goodison Park:

- Branislav Ivanovic had 58 touches of the ball - the most for his side - and that was exceeded by all but three of Everton’s starting eleven.

- Kevin Mirallas led the game with 7 shots.

- Mirallas and Diego Costa also hit the target 4 times each, a joint-high.

- Costa was accurate with all 4 of his attempts.

- Aiden McGeady completed 96% of his passes, the highest amongst all starting players.

- Steven Naismith and John Terry each won 4 aerial-duels, the most in the game.

- Nemanja Matic and Willian each made 5 tackles, the most in the game.

- Branislav Ivanovic led the game with 4 interceptions.

- Gary Cahill made 8 successful defensive-clearances, more than any other player.

- Leighton Baines and Kevin Mirallas each attempted a game-high 8 crosses. Baines completed 1, Mirallas was accurate with just 1.

- Phil Jagielka attempted (13) and completed (9) more long-passes than any other player.

- Nemanja Matic and Seamus Coleman each completed 3 successful dribbles, the most in the game.

- Leighton Baines was the game’s most-fouled player (4).
