Liverpool target Yevhen Konoplyanka: Europa League performance 0

On the basis that it’s almost assumed that Yevhen Konoplyanka will eventually move to Anfield in the Summer, this might be of interest to Liverpool fans - here are some of his graphics from tonight’s game with Tottenham.

Spurs didn’t put out a full-strength side, but there were enough first-teamers in the Ukraine to give Konoplyanka’s performance - impressive performance - some very useful context. Of course, those who have seen the winger play before will know exactly what to expect from him - direct, cutting-inside wing-play, tendency to shoot on-sight - but this will just illustrate the point to those who are less familiar.

The middle graphic is perhaps the most interesting, because it shows how rigid Konoplyanka’s positioning is - typically, the tendency in a modern winger is to drift all the way across the pitch throughout the course of the game. Juande Ramos’ tactical instructions may be partially responsible for that, but it’s certainly true to say that the player always looks far more comfortable when he’s on the left-hand side or when he’s entering the penalty-box from that area.
