Picking an Everton team for Old Trafford 0

Everton make the short journey to Manchester this evening, as they take on the defending Premier League Champions and previous manager David Moyes - here’s a suggested team.

There aren’t many contentious areas, but…

- Including Ross Barkley would be my trade-off for leaving Gerard Deulofeu out. Barkley’s ability on the ball and his attacking ambition make him an aggressive choice at Old Trafford, but he’s potentially someone who can exploit the issues which exist in the United midfield - Tom Cleverley and Marouane Fellaini are not the regular pairing, and Barkley’s has the skill-set to take advantage of that. I’d understand Roberto Martinez’s reasoning for playing Leon Osman, safer option that he represents, but the opposition are vulnerable tonight and Barkley would be the more ambitious selection.

- Excellent though Gerard Deulofeu was against Stoke, I think he misses-out this evening - he’s not ready for this kind of game. Kevin Mirallas isn’t going to tear Patrice Evra apart, but he’s capable of damaging United and he also possesses more defensive responsibility. The Belgian isn’t a defense-orientated winger by any stretch of the imagination, but he does offer more support to Seamus Coleman, and that’s probably why his name will be on the team-sheet this evening.
