Revisiting a hypothetical transfer target for Liverpool

Last week, I wrote this , which made the case for Liverpool pursuing Montpellier’s Remy Cabella as an additional attacking-midfield option.

Interestingly, Jean Fernandez, the French side’s manager, has said that Cabella is available for transfer for £15m:

“He is an intelligent boy who is enjoying a good season.

Now, if in the winter transfer window Manchester United offer €18m (£15m) as I have read, he must go.”

(The Express)

Ignore the bit about Manchester United, because that’s really just conjecture - this is the guy who Liverpool should be looking at as an understudy to Philippe Coutinho. While £15m sounds like a lot of money to spend on a secondary option, Cabella can also play wide - right or left - so while he would provide cover for the Brazilian, he’d also be capable of playing alongside him.

This is a very special player, slightly similar to Hatem Ben Arfa, and he’s enjoying the season of his life in Ligue 1.

Brendan, pick up the phone.
