Scott Parker should leave Tottenham, but not necessarily the Premier League

Tottenham Hotspur

Sky Sports reported this morning that QPR have failed with an attempt to sign Tottenham’s 32 year-old midfielder Scott Parker. It’s not a surprise, Harry Redknapp’s fondness for Parker is hardly a secret and he would be an incredibly useful building block upon which to mount a challenge for promotion.

But Parker isn’t ready to be put out to pasture just yet, and while he may not have an obvious future at White Hart Lane, he could still be very important to a side further down the league.

Imagine if you were Ian Holloway, Malky Mackay, or Steve Bruce: would you really turn your nose up at the chance to sign someone like Parker, who would give one of those three relatively rookie squads some experience and guidance alongside what remains a very passable set of playing attributes?

If it was me, no way - I’d be on the phone to Daniel Levy as quickly as possible, Parker may not look great alongside Sandro, Paulinho, or Mousa Dembele, but that doesn’t mean he no longer has any value at this level.

Additionally, while Parker’s England career looks almost certainly over, if he does retain any hope of making the trip to Brazil, he cannot afford to drop down a division this season.
