Taking aim at Fulham’s Adel Taarabt 0

Ben Weeks takes aim at Adel Taarabt for his lack of contribution to Fulham’s season…

‘That boy’ Clint Dempsey is all but a Fulham player again - Fulham fans rejoice - even if it’s only for two months (Meulensteen used some interesting language today suggesting it could be longer, but that’s another story). We all know what Dempsey gives, but where does this leave Adel Taarabt?

The Moroccan only joined the Whites on-loan from QPR this summer, but already it looks as though he has fallen so far down the pecking order that his chances of “Realising his potential” (Thanks, Rene) may well be better back in the Championship and Loftus Road, though everyone’s least favourite manager - unless you’re one of *those* Spurs fans, or part of the tabloid press - does not seem too keen on presenting Taarabt with potential salvation this season. Taarabt is currently battling with Kacaniklic, Ruiz, Duff and a number of promising youngsters for a space in the Fulham team - certainly when Dempsey arrives his prospects look even slimmer.

Taarabt has made 8 appearances for Fulham in the league, five of those as a substitute, and has not yet scored. He has scored in the League Cup, though that was against Burton Albion. Worst of all though, Taarabt has only created one chance for Fulham in the league since his arrival. Having been heralded by some as the ‘creative solution that Fulham sorely lacked under Jol, that stats says a lot as to why he isn’t getting any game time.

It’s almost a shame, because we have seen, in flashes so brief that you’d be excused for not really noticing, that this is a player who has talent. You just don’t have the right mix, Adel, or else can’t utilise it properly. Time to move on, again.
