Tottenham target Roberto Soldado: Statistical value to Andre Villas-Boas

soldad

In addition to David Villa, Tottenham are supposedly doing their best to attract Roberto Soldado to White Hart Lane. To be honest, that’s probably one for the ‘maybe’ pile: Soldado is one of those players who’s perennially linked with the Premier League, but without much substance to support those suggestions.

Anyway, for the sake of it, here’s a look at how Soldado compares with the existing options in Andre Villas-Boas’ squad:

- Soldado scored 24 league goals last season, more than any other Tottenham player and considerably more than Emmanuel Adebayor (5) and Jermain Defoe (11) combined.

- Soldado provided 4 assists, again more than either Adebayor (1) or Defoe (3).

- Soldado averaged 2.9 shots per game last season, with only Gareth Bale (5) and Jermain Defoe (3.2) managing more for Spurs.

- Soldado won 1.1 aerial duels per game in 12/13, compared to Adebayor’s 1.5 and Defoe’s 0.2.

- Soldado created 0.9 chances per game for his teammates last season, equal with Defoe, but inferior to Adebayor’s 1.1.

- Soldado was fouled 1.5 times per game, more than any Tottenham player barring Clint Dempsey (1.6).
